About the Institute for the Blind and Partially Sighted

The Institute for the Blind and Partially Sighted, IBOS, is a national rehabilitation institute for young people and adults with vision impairment. IBOS is situated in Hellerup north of Copenhagen.

The declared objective is helping young people and adults with vision impairment to function to the best of their abilities in a seeing world. The Institute offers its expertise and

experience through the whole process of unravelling the needs to actual counselling, teaching and education.

As a national institute we always cooperate with the individual's local authority. In cases of sudden loss of sight acute support and assistance is offered locally by Institute staff. In other cases the person is offered shorter or longer periods of training and/or living at the Institute.

The Institute also offers consultancy, continued education and tailormade courses to professionals working with vision impairment.

We aim at professionalism at a very high level. Continuous in-service training and focus on special methods of teaching characterize the Institute. IBOS leads and participate in

national and international development projects and networks.

120 members of staff are employed to carry out and develop Institute activities. The daily activities are organized across professional groupings of teachers, IT, ADL and O&M in-structors, counsellors, pedagogs, psychologists, ergo and physiotherapists, etc.

The Institute for the Blind and Partially Sighted belongs under The Social Services department in Copenhagen but is open to assist persons with vision impairment from all over Denmark.
